Wellness + Travel: Overcoming Burnout and Food as Medicine

You ever meet someone and there’s just a beautiful energy where you know you’re in sync? This is what it has been like ever since I connected with Angel back when Twitter was Twitter (RIP). I always appreciated her perspectives on wellness and nutrition, and how she incorporated travel into her work with her clients — mostly women over 40. So I HAD to have her on the show!

In this episode of Spirit in the Material World, Angel V. Shannon, a Master of Science and Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner, shares her journey from burnout to wellness! She is the founder of Seva Health and The Seva Institute where she put mindfulness and compassion in action to help you live longer and live better. In our conversation and really in all of her work, Angel emphasizes the importance of integrative health, and the impact of burnout on individuals and communities. We explore the connection between travel and wellness, the significance of understanding healthcare systems abroad, and the necessity of having a strategic approach to life design, especially for those over 40. I feel like especially as I’m aging (like fine wine), it takes so much more intentionality to eat well, work out, stretch and also incorporate the self-care piece. None of it is negotiable in ways that I could skirt around it before I turned 40. She has a really gentle approach and also is gonna keep it 100, okay!

Angel shares insights on her upcoming food and wine retreat in Greece, emphasizing the importance of food as medicine and the joy of cooking. Please check out her website and her dope podcast, Healthy Housecalls with Angel — I’ll be on an upcoming episode talking about inner child healing and connecting with ancestors through travel — we went deep deep!
