Pura vida! Has Costa Rica been on your travel bucket list? Well shamon with me to the Caribbean coast with its distinct Afro Costa Rican and Indigenous culture and communities! I’m hyped to host this group trip and bring my WanderWomxn community to experience such a special place that I once called home.
Date: September 12-20, 2024
Location: Costa Rica – focusing on the Caribbean coast, Puerto Viejo, with a brief time in San Jose (the capital) and the Pacuare River.
Accommodations: The Sonora Jungle Yoga and Retreat boutique hotel by the black sand beach of Playa Negra in Puerto Viejo; and at Rios Lodge, a lush eco-lodge by the Pacuare River specializing in farm-to-table cuisine.
The itinerary is DOPE!
Puerto Viejo has a special place in my heart because it was home to me for six months, and it is home to the Afro-Costa Rican people as well as the Bribri Indigenous community. It is completely different from the rest of the country with beautiful Black folks, reggae vibes, a fascinating history and some of the most gorgeous beaches in Costa Rica.
The trip includes:
- Chocolate Goddess Waterfall and cacao tour,
- a private Caribbean beach party,
- a Caribbean cooking class with a local family,
- a sensual movement class led by me!,
- a walking food tour exploring hidden gems in the capital, San Jose.
- a special farewell dinner tailored just for us,
- plus plenty of time to chill and explore at your own pace,
- Option: for whitewater rafting if you’re really bold!
We will staying at the highly-rated Sonora Jungle Yoga and Retreat boutique hotel in Playa Negra, Puerto Viejo; and at the award-winning Rios Lodge, a lush eco-lodge by the Pacuare River.

I’m really excited to be working with the amazing women of Soul Life Travel! Shout out to Sadie who I met when I lived there. I really appreciated how dedicated she was, and still is, to supporting the local community and building bridges between the many visitors and immigrants from the States with the local AfroCosta Rican families. We share values of ethical and conscious travel plus having fun!
